Varce Finally Feeling Healthy Again

Varce struck out two in his season debut on Tues.

Zach Varce ended last season optimistic about what this season would hold. He posted a respectable 4.54 ERA in Staten Island last year with an impressive 74 strikeouts to 17 walks. In the beginning of Spring Training, his first live batting practice actually, something felt different. It started small but his minor groin strain kept Varce from throwing his first inning of 2011 until July 5.

After he felt the first sign of pain in the, Zachary Varce rested for a week. He tried to throw again but to no avail, it felt the same if not worse. He rested for a month and a half, tried physical therapy and rehab, then gave it another shot. It persisted.
