Murphy Getting More Assertive

Murphy wants to continue his defensive progress

TAMPA, FL - It doesn't take long for scouts to realize that J.R. Murphy is about a professional hitter there is at the minor league level. And while his defensive game behind the plate continues to get better, he says getting more assertive as a leader on the field is a big priority for him in camp and during the 2012 season.

He hit a respectable .273 over in big league camp earlier this month and while he admits to playing a little more third base than he had anticipated, a position he will also play some during the upcoming season, he believes his time with the big league club was invaluable.
