The 28-year-old righty has only issued two walks in 17 minor league innings, which is the sort of thing that will help him get another shot in the Majors bullpen. … After failing to earn a spot on the big league roster in spring training, Gregorio Petit has had a solid start in Tucson, posting a .311/.338/.432 line over his first 79 plate appearances. The 28-year-old came up a triple short of the cycle on Sunday.

Prospect Watch: Burch Smith continued his early-season dominance of the Texas League, giving up only four hits and a walk over five more shutout innings. The big righty now owns a 31:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 26 innings and a league-best 0.73 WHIP. Nice to see Smith contain the circuit's highest-scoring offense. … Matt Stites gave up his first earned run of the year and was charged with a blown save. The righty stranded an inherited runner in the seventh, but opened the eighth by hitting a batter and giving up two singles.

Prospect Watch: Jace Peterson continued his surge, knocking his first homer of the year as part of another multi-hit game. The 2011 supplemental pick has hit in seven of his last eight games and has raised his OPS more than 200 points in the last two weeks. … Yeison Asencio had two hits for the second consecutive night, including another double. More importantly, the right-handed slugger has only struck out twice in his last 18 plate appearances. He still isn't walking at all – just twice in 89 plate appearances – but if he can limit the strikeouts, his power at the plate will force pitchers to be more cautious with him and drive up the walk total. … Matt Jackson had a solid bounce back start after getting blasted in Visalia. The righty gave up two runs over five innings of work and did not give up a walk.

Prospect Watch: First-rounder Zack Eflin had his best start yet, giving up one run over five innings and setting a careerhigh with five strikeouts. The righty from Florida is still looking for his first professional victory, but it won't take long with more performances like Sunday's. … Maxx Tissenbaum has hit in each of his last eight starts, raising his average over .300 for the first time this year. Last year's 11th-rounder, who played with Travis Jankowski at SUNY Stony Brook, had his first error at second base on the year (his other error was at shortstop), setting up the game-tying run.
