We sat down with Yankees' 25th round pick, Jordan Floyd, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what…
Q&A with Yankees 31st Rnd Pk Kevin Cornelius
Kevin Cornelius: It's a great feeling. They're my favorite team. It's a dream come true, honestly.
PinstripesPlus.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Yankees?
Cornelius: I'm a kind of guy that works hard and tries my best all the time, giving 110 percent. I'm just going to do what I can to find a spot, move up in the organization, and help the team out.
PinstripesPlus.com: What are your strengths and your weaknesses?
Cornelius: I'm more of an offensive guy. I have to work on my defense and find a place where they can put me and get a spot here.
PinstripesPlus.com: What specifically about your defensive game do you have to work on?
Cornelius: Right now it is working at short and just getting better there. If they have me moving at all, then getting used to a new position.
PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Yankees' fans have an idea of what your game is like?
Cornelius: I would like to compare myself to Matt Holliday of the Cardinals. He shows up early, works hard, goes about his business quietly and gets the job done.
PinstripesPlus.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Yankees or were you surprised when they selected you?
Cornelius: They talked to me quite a bit and I knew that was the team I was going to go to. It's always a happy situation and a little bit of surprise when you get drafted because you never know for sure. I had an idea of the round I would be selected but really, had no idea.
PinstripesPlus.com: Do you see yourself staying at the same position or do you think you'll be moved to another position?
Cornelius: I really don't know at this point. Anything could happen.
PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?
Cornelius: Probably getting drafted by the New York Yankees and taking it. Every player looks forward to getting drafted and hopefully this is the beginning of a long career.
PinstripesPlus.com: You mentioned the Yankees were your favorite team -- is that correct? And who was your favorite player growing up?
Cornelius: Favorite team was the New York Yankees and my favorite player was Derek Jeter. He's the captain of the team and does everything right. The Yankees are a great organization. They are classy and I like to win like they do.
PinstripesPlus.com: You've already signed with the Yankees. What do you want Yankees' fans to know about you?
Cornelius: I am going to do everything in my ability to make it to the MLB as soon as possible.
