Q&A with Yankees 10th Round Pick Tyler Webb

Webb is already in Staten Island

We sat down with Yankees' 10th round pick, Tyler Webb, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the left-handed pitcher from the University of South Carolina says about his game, how he feels being drafted by the Yankees, what he plans on doing, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what is going through your mind after being selected by a team like the Yankees.

Tyler Webb: It's just a great honor and a great opportunity.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you surprised it was the Yankees that selected you? Had you and the Yankees talked much before the draft?

Webb: We really hadn't talked that much, but I knew that my adviser was talking to them the day of the draft.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you have any idea what the Yankees' organization or farm system is like?

Webb: No, but I'm looking forward to figuring it out.

PinstripesPlus.com: What type of pitches do you throw and at what speeds? Give us a scouting report please - what are your strengths and what do you need to work on the most?

Webb: Mainly a fastball, slider and change-up. My fastball is in the high-80s, low-90s, and the other pitches I'm not as sure. A strength would be command, but I need to improve my secondary pitches.

PinstripesPlus.com: Did you have a favorite team growing up or a favorite player?

Webb: No, not really. I'm from Virginia so there weren't really any teams around to watch. I'm just a fan of the game.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Webb: Winning back-to-back national championships in my freshman and sophomore years. It was a great experience, and [South Carolina] was a great place.

PinstripesPlus.com: Are you looking to sign quickly and get your professional career started right away?

Webb: I'm actually in Staten Island right now so hopefully I'll be playing in the next couple of days.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you think the pressures of pitching in New York might be a problem?

Webb: I don't know if I'm ready for it per se right now, but hopefully I'll have some time to get acclimated with the pro lifestyle and hopefully it won't be a problem.
