Springfield manager Mike Shildt on year three
Mike Shildt is now into his third season as the manager of the Springfield Cardinals. His first Double-A club won the team's first-ever Texas League title on the heels of his Johnson City teams' back-to-back Appalachian League crowns in 2010 and 2011. (Shildt, just left of the team logo, leads a "yellow pad" review) The 45-year-old sat down before Sunday's game to discuss a number of topics in considerable depth. They include the two new members of his coaching staff, the new-old five-man rotation, some role changes, players promoted and returned to the level this season, as well as insight into how he sets his lineup and manages his bullpen. Of course, Shildt also covered new shortstop Aledmys Diaz, who is in his first starting lineup Sunday. The designated hitter is batting third after three unsuccessful pinch-hitting at-bats. (16:30) Coming soon: Other upcoming interviews from Springfield include Diaz, Jonathan Rodriguez, Sam Gaviglio, Zach Petrick, Patrick Wisdom, Kurt Heyer and coach Packy Elkins.
