Q&A with Yanks 31st Round Pick Devyn Bolasky

Bolasky has faith in his hitting ability

We sat down with Yankee's 31st round pick, Devyn Bolasky, for a Draft Day Q&A. Find out what the outfielder from UC-Riverside in California has to say about his performance on the field, how he feels about being drafted, his immediate intentions with the Yankees, and much more.

PinstripesPlus.com: Tell us what it feels like to be selected by the New York Yankees?

Devyn Bolasky: First off, it's a great organization and there's so much history there. Hopefully I can be with them for a long time in the future.

PinstripesPlus.com: Talk about your game a little bit. What type of player are you and how do you see yourself fitting in with the Yankees?

Bolasky: I see myself fitting in very well. I am quick on the base paths and don't strike out very much. I am more of a contact hitter as opposed to a power hitter and can steal a lot of bags.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Bolasky: I would have to say my strengths are putting the ball into play and not striking out very much. For my weaknesses, I don't take many pitches and it cost me a couple times this past season.

PinstripesPlus.com: How about your defensive game?

Bolasky: I run down the balls in the outfield and I'm a centerfielder with a good arm to throw guys out. In college I play centerfield the majority of the time, it's definitely my main spot and where I am most comfortable. But I play the corners sometimes as well.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who would you compare your game to at the Major League level so the Yankees' fans have an idea of what your game is like?

Bolasky: I would have to say Jacoby Ellsbury. But he hit like 30 bombs in one year. I don't know if I would do that but he is someone I would compare myself to.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you expecting to be drafted by the Yankees or were you surprised when they selected you?

Bolasky: I've been talking to them previously but I was shocked to see my name. I was following the draft on my phone and sitting on the couch when I found out.

PinstripesPlus.com: What would you say is your best moment in baseball and why?

Bolasky: Right now. Seeing my name and getting drafted. That has always been my goal growing up. My best moment in baseball is definitely now.

PinstripesPlus.com: Who was your favorite team and player growing up?

Bolasky: The Red Sox are my favorite team. It was a hard pill for my dad to swallow when I was drafted to the Yankees since he's a big Sox fan. But I'm excited to be part of the organization. My favorite player would have to be Ken Griffey Jr.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your immediate plans now that you have been drafted by the Yankees? Is it your intention to sign now and start your professional career immediately?

Bolasky: It has always been a goal of mine and I plan to sign immediately.
