PP Scouting Report: SP, Danny Borrell

The New York Yankees selected left-hander Danny Borrell, out of Wake Forest University, in the second round of the 2000 draft. The twenty-four-year-old pitched well while with Columbus in 2003, starting ten games and finishing 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 55.1 IP. Yet, he was forced to undergo season-ending surgery after doctors found a torn ligament in his left shoulder in the beginning of June.

Currently, it's unclear how Borrell will fit into the Yankees plans in 2004. Based upon how he recovers from surgery and what the organization does with their rotation (Roger Clemens is expected to retire, David Wells' option was not picked up, and Andy Pettitte is a free agent), many possibilities exist.
