The Yankees scored four runs in the first inning on two-run homers by A-Rod and Sheffield, then didn't get another hit until the seventh inning... Tampa Bay took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring runs on a Tino Martinez RBI single, a Julio Lugo two-run homerun that tied the game at four, and an RBI triple off the bat of Carl Crawford that put the Rays out in front... Mussina fell to 0-2 and still needs one win for his 200th career victory. His ERA stands at a lofty 11.00 after pitching four innings and allowing six earned runs... Victor Zambrano improved to 2-0 despite walking seven batters, he only allowed two hits... RHP Paul Quantrill allowed three hits and a run in just 0.2 of an innings... Jose Cruz went 4/5 for the Rays, and was a homerun short of the cycle.
Game two of the two-game set is on Wednesday at 4:15 PM. Kevin Brown will start for the Yankees against either Jeremi Gonzalez or Paul Abbott for Tampa Bay.
