PP Game Notes: Yankees 5 - White Sox 4

Bubba Crosby Sparked The Yankees To Victory

Mike Mussina finally won his 200th career decision and the Yankees got an emotional spark from Bubba Crosby, who connected for his second homer as a Yankee, and just the second time in his career. The Yankees edged the White Sox 5-4 and earned a split of the four-game series.

Crosby had his day in the sun and the Yankee faithful showed their appreciation. By the end of the game, they were chanting for the rookie, who made the Opening Day roster unexpectedly out of Spring Training... Crosby hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to temporarily give the Yankees a 4-3 lead, he also crashed into the wall in centerfield while making a catch on a Magglio Ordonez blast, drawing cheers from the stands... Mussina surrendred the lead in the next inning, serving up a solo homerun to Jose Valentin... Gary Sheffield's RBI double in the bottom of the fifth sealed the win for the Yankees and Mussina, Sheffield also drove in a run in the first inning... Mussina (1-2) earned his first win of the season after two poor outings against the Devil Rays. He pitched 6.1 innings and allowed four runs - three earned - on seven hits and a pair of walks. He struck out six... Tom Gordon preserved the lead with a runner on third in the seventh by striking out Ordonez, then pitched a perfect eighth. Mariano Rivera picked up his third save of the season... Dan Wright took the loss for Chicago, allowing five runs - four earned - in just 4.2 innings.

The Yankees' next game is on Tuesday at 7:05 PM against the Devil Rays... Kevin Brown (2-0) will take the mound looking for the 200th victory of his career, and third against Tampa Bay this season. Kurt Abbott will pitch for the Rays.
