Osborne ran into trouble right off the bat in the second inning. He walked Edgar Martinez to lead off the frame, then allowed a single to Raul Ibanez, a two-RBI double to Jolbert Cabrera, another single to John Olerud and an RBI single to Rich Aurilia that made it 3-0 Seattle. Dan Wilson then homered to left field to clear the bases and give the Mariners a 6-0 lead. One out later, Randy Winn singled hard to left and Osborne was finished. Bret Prinz relieved and ended the hit parade... Alex Rodriguez started to chip away with a solo homerun off of Jamie Moyer in the fourth... In the sixth, Jason Giambi made it 6-4 with a three-run shot that scored Derek Jeter and Rodriguez... Julio Mateo relieved Moyer to start the seventh and allowed a one-out double to Miguel Cairo, after Jorge Posada struck out, Jeter connected on a two-run, game-tying homerun to centerfield to complete the comeback... The Yankees took the lead in the eighth when Rodriguez scored from third on Hideki Matsui's sacrifice fly. A-Rod had walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on a single and a groundout. Gary Sheffield narrowly beat out a double play to keep the inning going for Matsui to hit the fly...

Paul Quantrill (4-1) pitched the seventh and earned the victory, while Tom Gordon threw a flawless eighth. Mariano Rivera earned his 12th save of the year in the ninth... Rafael Soriano (0-3), who allowed the sac fly to Matsui came away with the loss. Moyer allowed four runs over six innings.

Game one is Tuesday at 7:05 PM Eastern time... Kevin Brown (4-0, 2.89) will pitch for the Yankees against Anaheim's Kelvim Escobar (2-1, 4.76).
