Despite Early Success, Karstens Still Learning

A Reliever In College, Now A Starter

Jeff Karstens is the Thunder's 22-year old dominating right-hander. Karstens has a three and one record on the season with a 1.50 ERA, and has pitched well enough to be undefeated. Karstens was selected in the 19th round of the 2003 June Draft out of Texas Tech and has made a steady rise through the Yankees system since then. He went 6-9 last year for Tampa and only walked thirty-one in one hundred thirty eight and one third innings pitched.

Karstens 1.50 ERA is good for second among Trenton starters this year, behind only Sean Henn who owns a 0.71 ERA. Karstens says he isn't bitter about possibly being able to be undefeated if the anemic Thunder offense had given him more run support. "Not at all. It's (lack of run support) gonna happen. They supported me in my second start when I didn't have my best stuff so no." says Karstens...
