This was your first taste of Subway Series action. Did the first couple of games live up to everything you'd imagined?
I didn't believe how loud it could be. I heard it [from players], but sometimes when people tell you something you don't know until you see it. That's how I feel. We won the first one and then they won one, so we're even. That makes this a big game today: they've got Pedro and we've got Pavano. We'll see what happens.
Are these the loudest crowds you've ever played in front of?
Yeah. You feel much more energy with a big crowd. It's really different than a small crowd, everything about it. It sounds big. The crowds are loud and they scream. Seattle was loud too but this is louder.
You got off to a slow start with the Yankees before turning it on of late. Did you have any reason for the struggles after your callup?
Not really. Some people said it was a slump, but I don't think it was. I was hitting [the ball] good, it was that I hit the ball right at people. That'll happen at times in the game.
Did you feel like you needed those first 20 or so at-bats to really get a comfort zone up here, or were you ready to go from minute one?
No, I was ready to go from minute one. When you're not ready, you make outs. When you're ready, you hit into outs. They might make a play on it, but you'll be out. I felt ready to come up and do the job.
Joe Torre has told reporters that he has a growing amount of confidence in you, and some people have said that they believe you could be a mainstay with the Yankees for the next few years. How does that praise make you feel?
It really makes me feel comfortable and confident. I can relax knowing [Torre] likes me and that lets me go out there and just play. [Torre] has kept that [pressure] off me. I'm not worried and I don't feel pressure or have to press. When you're in the game, you do your job, and you're going to do well. That's what I believe.
Has the major league experience been different in any way from what you expected?
Well, yes. It's so different. [With] some teams, you don't know what you're looking for. The game is faster and the players are faster; you don't believe what some guys are able do. I know I can play here and I'm lucky to be here. I just want to keep doing as good a job as I can.
