Chris Grossman earned a reputation as one of the top collegiate catchers while playing for the University of California, becoming a semi-finalist for the Johnny Bench Award after hitting .341 with 16 doubles, 8 home runs, and 45 RBI in 52 games. After spurning professional interest in him after his great junior year to finish his college education and return to Cal for his last year of eligibility, Grossman's final year was cut short with a shoulder injury. "I was not drafted after my junior year because I was going back for my senior year," Grossman explained to PinstripesPlus.com in a recent interview.
