Yankees Take Prep Pitcher, Zach McAllister

Yankees Take Prep Pitcher, Zach McAllister

In the third round, 104th overall, the Yankees selected their first high school player of the draft, Zach McAllister. A 6' 5" righty, McAllister is the son of Diamondbacks' crosschecker, Steve McAllister, and possesses a projectable frame and a low-90's heater.

It was only a matter of time before the Yankees picked up a high school player, and Zach McAllister was their man in the third round. Zach has grown six inches and put on sixty pounds of strength in the past two years, allowing his fastball to sit around 90 MPH. And, even at 6' 5", 230 pounds, he is a good athlete that projects to throw in the mid90's down the road.

For Illinois Valley Central High School this spring, McAllister went 7-1 with 3.20 ERA in 82 innings of work this spring, despite a very slow start. However, he picked up his game at the right time and impressed the Yankees enough for them to select him with their third round pick.
