Posted Jun 6, 2006

With their 6th round pick in the 2006 draft, the New York Yankees selected Purdue shortstop, Mitch Hilligoss. A junior, Hilligoss is a speedy shortstop who not only plays solid defense, but has shown great promise as a hitter as well.

For Purdue this season, Hilligoss batted an impressive .386 while slugging 6 home runs, 16 doubles and five triples. Not to mention, he also added 18 stolen bases. Hilligoss has impressed scouts with his hands at either middle infield position and his ability to make contact. Speaking o which, he only struck out 21 times in 228 at bats.
