Mark Melancon Gives Yankees Another Steal

Posted Jun 6, 2006

In another bombshell of a selection, the Yankees selected University of Arizona closer, Mark Melancon. The big righty is considered by many to be the top closer in the 2006 class, and only dropped due to medical concerns that have since been cleared up.

With their selection of Mark Melancon in the 9th round, the Yankees may be planning for the future of their closer role in the Bronx. There is no closer in the nation that has a better track record as a reliever than Melancon. With his 92-95 MPH fastball a plus, hammer curveball that sits in the mid-80's and fantastic demeanor, most scouts believe that he can be a successful closer at the big league level.
