Smith Happy With His Direction

Brett Smith leads Tampa in innings pitched

Brett Smith predicted over a year ago that his second professional season would go a lot better. After going 4-7 with a 5.21 ERA with Tampa last season, he has posted a respectable 8-9 mark with a 3.76 ERA with Tampa in 2006. Logging a team-high 153 innings, and remaining healthy for a second straight year, Smith is happy with the pace of his career thus far.

"It's still the same story," said Brett Smith of his progression, "it's all a process. I'm trying to get better everyday. The results have been better but it's not like I've dealt all year. I've had my rough starts and I think I have a lot more confidence in my ability and in my coaching staff. The results show that and I'm happy with the way I'm going, but by no means am I there yet."
