Yankees Land De Leon On Signing Day

Kelvin De Leon was inked to a deal Monday morning

JUAN DOLIO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - The Yankees signed prized outfielder Kelvin De Leon out of the Dominican Republic, as well as eight other prospects, as part of a busy 'July 2nd' Signing Day in the early hours Monday morning.

While the deal (and all other July 2nd signs) will not be official until signed off by the Commissioner's Office, the Yankees snagged themselves another top-flight position prospect. Reportedly possessing plus-plus power potential and a consistent bat, De Leon highlighted another strong crop of July 2nd signs by the Yankees.

New York also inked 16-year old Venezuelan outfielder Eduardo Sosa, who some scouts have compared to a Johnny Damon type as possessing good speed, decent power, but a better arm in the outfield.

Signing alongside De Leon in Juan Dolio, a town in the Dominican Republic, were third baseman Elio De La Rosa, outfielder Henry Pena, right-handed pitcher Arodis Vizcaino, outfielder Edwin Beard, and Brazilian right-handed pitcher Maicar Sousa.

Along with Sosa, the Yankees signed catchers Jorge Liccien and Josue Rodriguez from Venezuela.

No terms of the deals were disclosed and more signings are expected in the coming weeks.
