Malec Carving Out His Niche

Hitting .301 has Malec all smiles these days

Christopher Malec opened some eyes with his play last year in stints between Charleston and Tampa. Primarily playing first base for both teams after playing mostly third base and second base the previous two seasons, he hit a combined .316 last season and the switch-hitter is now proving his versatility and solid bat could help carve himself a nice niche in the Yankees organization.

"I think it's going good," Christopher Malec said of his 2008 season. "I started off on the right foot. I think it was a great opportunity to get up here last season to kind of learn and see the playoff environment, to see how things work in Double-A.
