Valera is coming back from an injury

TAMPA, FL - After getting a taste of baseball in the United States, 17-year old catching prospect Jackson Valera was optioned to the Dominican Summer League a year ago. Now 18, with a year of experience under his belt, he is pushing to show the organization that he is ready to make a short-season squad.

In 2009 Jackson Valera batted .217 in the Rookie Dominican Summer League with 40 hits in 184 at bats. The Venezuela native hit seven doubles, knocked two out of the yard and drove in 23 runs. He has only been in the U.S. for two months this year, however, this is his second year participating in Extended Spring Training.
