We sat down with Yankees' 26th round pick, R.J. Hively, for a Draft Day Q&A session. Find out what the right-handed pitcher from Santa Ana Colege says about his stuff, his favorite player and how he'll fit into the Yankees organization, and more!

PinstripesPlus.com: What's it like to be selected by a team like the Yankees?

R.J. Hively: It's an amazing feeling, I mean it's great to be drafted, and to have it be the Yankees makes it that much better.

PinstripesPlus.com: Were you surprised the Yankees had selected you? Had they talked to you a lot before the draft?

Hively: Yeah, it was surprising, they hadn't really talked to me at all. But I'm glad it happened, and I'm definitely happy.

PinstripesPlus.com: What types of pitches do you throw and at what speeds? What are your strengths, and what do you need to work on most?

Hively: Well, my best pitch is my slider, which is around 81-83. My fastball is around 88-92 and I'm working on a changeup, but it's not really where I want it to be right now.

PinstripesPlus.com: Did you have a favorite team or favorite player growing up?

Hively: Not really, but I always did like watching the Yankees play in the 90's when they had Brosius and all of those guys.

PinstripesPlus.com: Do you think the pressures of pitching in New York might be a problem?

Hively: No, I enjoy challenges, and I really do thrive in pressure situations.

PinstripesPlus.com: What was your best baseball moment, and why?

Hively: Probably the Northwoods League All-Star game last year…It was great to be named an all-star, and a great game to be a part of.

PinstripesPlus.com: What are your plans now that you've been drafted? You're slated to go to Mississippi, but would you consider getting your professional career started?

Hively: You know, I haven't really thought about it that much. I just want to enjoy playing summer ball here in Battle Creek, and at the end of the summer I'll make that decision.
