Murphy Settling In

Murphy has hit safely in 6 of his last 7 games

Now that J.R. Murphy has two months of professional baseball under his belt, the 19-year old catcher is beginning to settle in with the RiverDogs. Murphy joined the Riverdogs in May, hitting .222 that month. In June his batting average jumped up to .266. And along the way, the young right-hander has exhibited poise and maturity.

"I've been working on plate discipline," J.R. Murphy explained. "All the pitchers seem to be attacking me the same way, so I've been working on having a plan everyday at the plate and being selective with my pitches." Cumulatively, his batting average is .250.
