Biography:
Jeter was the first round pick of the Yankees (sixth overall) in 1992 amateur draft... The shortstop debuted on May 29, 1995 and hit .250 in 48 at bats in his first year as a Yankee... Gained the starting shortstop job in 1996 and won the Rookie Of The Year Award by hitting .314 with 10 homeruns, 78 RBI, 104 runs scored and 14 stolen bases... Won World Series Championships with the Yankees in '96, '98, '99 and 2000.... Hit .349 with 24 homeruns and 102 RBI in 1999, finishing sixth in the MVP voting to Ivan Rodriguez and second in the batting title race to Nomar Garciaparra... Garnered World Series MVP Honors in 2000, as well as the All-Star MVP award, becoming the first player to win both awards in the same season... Is a career .314 hitter in 99 postseason games, with 13 homeruns... In February of 2001, signed a 10-year deal worth $189 million... Officially named Team Captain during the 2003 season.
