Biography:
Taken with the 20th overall pick of the 1990 amateur draft by the Baltimore Orioles, Mike Mussina quickly gained a reputation as one of the most consistently excellent pitchers in the league... Went 18-5 with a 2.54 ERA in his first full season with the Orioles in 1992, finishing fourth in the Cy Young voting... Has finished in the top 10 of Cy Young voting on eight occassions, but has never won the award... Mussina also has six Gold Gloves to his credit... Signed a six-year, $88.5 million deal with the Yankees before the 2001 season and has emerged as the staff ace with the departures of several other pitchers.

Mussina would be the number one starter on virtually any team in the majors... He is a control master, generally finishing among the league leaders in fewest walks allowed per nine innings, as well as most strikeouts per nine innings. Mussina is best known for his knee-bending knuckle curveball. He is the only pitcher in the majors that throws the pitch with success.
