| Drafted by the Yankees in the 24th round of the 1990 draft as an infielder, Posada has become a cornerstone of the Yankees as their every day catcher... Spent the first four seasons of his career learning under the tutelage of Joe Girardi, finally taking over the starter's role full-time in 2000... Since then, Posada has averaged 25 homeruns and 95 RBI for the Yankees... Finished third in the AL MVP voting in 2003 behind Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Delgado after hitting .281 with 30 homeruns and 101 RBI while also drawing 93 walks... Posada is widely regarded as the best-hitting catcher in the game today, and is always mentioned in the same breath as fellow elite catchers Ivan Rodriguez and Mike Piazza... In February of 2002, Posada signed a five-year deal worth $51 million with the Yankees. |
