Drafted in the third round by Cleveland in 2003.
Won the Johnny Bench Award as the nation's top collegiate catcher in 2003 at Stanford. ... Co-PAC 10 Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-American as a senior in 2003. ... Hit .273 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 45 games at Class A Mahoning Valley after signing with the Indians.
Won the 2004 Lou Boudreau Award as the top position player in the Indians' minor-league system when he combined for 22 homers and 99 RBI at three stops in the organization. Hit .328 (78-for-238) with 16 homers and 57 RBI in 65 games at Class A Kinston, then hit .331 (57-for-172) with six homers and 38 RBI in 43 games at Class AA Akron before going to Class AAA Buffalo, where he hit .350 (7-for-20) with four RBI in five games.
