Mesa opened the season with a 5-game hit streak

MOOSIC, Pa. – He took a risk this spring, and it didn't work out. But for Melky Mesa, that by no means is the cue to stop fighting. The 26-year-old outfielder is starting the 2013 season with Triple-A Scranton after seeing extensive playing time with the Yankees in camp. Although he didn't make the big league squad, Mesa still believes the goal of playing with the Yankees is very attainable.

Technically, Mesa has already achieved "the goal." A late September call-up last season, Mesa appeared in three games for the Yankees. He only had two at-bats but did record his first Major League hit and RBI. Still, Mesa says playing a few games at the end of the season won't cut it.
