Still Much To Prove For Mesa

Mesa had 18 home runs entering the season

It was a bitter-sweet season for outfielder Melky Mesa. Leading Charleston in home runs and ranking among the league leaders, he proved to be quite the power hitter by clubbing more home runs in one season than he had his previous five seasons combined. But after striking out at an alarming rate and finishing with a low batting average, he realizes he still has much to prove.

Hitting lots of home runs was one of Melky Mesa's goals for the 2009 season. In his first long season experience, he certainly accomplished that goal. The 6-foot-1, 185 pound player not only led the team in home runs, but was tied for fourth place in that category in the league.
